Beshalach (בשלח | “When He Sent”)

Beshalach, Beshallach, or Beshalah (בְּשַׁלַּח‬ — Hebrew for “when [he] let go,” the second word and first distinctive word in the parashah) is the sixteenth weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה‬, parashah) in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading and the fourth in the Book of Exodus.

The parashah is made up of 6,423 Hebrew letters, 1,681 Hebrew words, and 116 verses, and can occupy about 216 lines in a Torah Scroll.[1]

Summary

Pharaoh pursues the Israelites into the desert. The Red Sea splits, the Israelites cross the sea while the Egyptian army is drowned. Moses and the Israelites sing a special song thanking Adonai for this miracle. The Israelites complain about a lack of food and drink. Adonai sends Manna and quail for them to eat, and miraculously produces water from THE Rock. Amalek attacks the Israelites and is soundly defeated.[2]
